Baby D is...
So as you can see, we had a pretty eventful weekend! We found out that Baby D is a BOY!!! We were shocked! Reese prayed for a baby brother so I had a feeling baby would be a boy but David thought girl all the way.
Saturday night my sister, Emily, threw us a gender reveal party and we had our families come together to celebrate with us! There were a total of 12 of us, and out of that 12, David was the only one on "Team Girl." I think it's starting to sink in but I'm still in a little bit of disbelief. I know nothing about raising a boy. Growing up it was just my sister and I, and David and I have spent the last 5 (and a half (Reese reminds us of the half daily)) years raising a girl. I'm excited and terrified and shocked all at once. But ready or not...
But before the party, Reese and I made a run to Target and I bought my first "baby" purchase for this pregnancy; maternity pants! I know, y'all are so proud! Well, at least I'm super proud of myself. I'm sure it's the first of many purchases that will be made before our baby boy arrives in April.
If you know my husband, David, you know that things are about to get really expensive. David has a little bit of a thing for shoes. I've joked that if and when we purchase another house, separate closets are a MUST! While our closets are an exact match to our personality types, David's is stacked as high as he can get it with shoe boxes. Mine, on the other hand, you can't even walk in because the floor is covered with shoes. I'm one who just opens the door and tosses the shoes in without even looking. David's shoes are all still in the original boxes. If he's looking at shoes in the store and the box is damaged, it could possibly be a deal breaker. That's how serious this is.
Our toothpaste is another area where our personalities shine through. David is one who uses a comb to squeeze from the bottom up. I, on the other hand, am one who squeezes, with my fist, from the middle. For the sake of David's sanity and our marriage, separate closets, sinks, and toothpaste tubes will, from this point on, be a necessity.
So with all of this being said, David's personality is very much a pretty boy. This baby will have crazy hair cuts, better shoes than his mom, and skinny jeans for days. David has already done as much of this as he can to Reese. Every time she goes up a shoe size, David comes home with a new pair of Nike's for her to wear. And they're never just the plain Nike's that are generic and match everything. We've had teal Nike's, Purple leather Nike's, Rose Gold Leather Nike's, and the list goes on. For this baby boy, I'm sure he'll have the craziest shoes David can manage to find. And I'll be stuck with the task of trying to find outfits to match all the crazy!
I'm looking forward to dressing a little hipster boy and learning to just let go a little along the way. They say that with your second child you're a lot more laid back. For my families sake, I sure hope so. But I'll just take it one day at a time and let God lead me. The saying, "I'm letting go and letting God," is one I'll be trying to adopt while raising our children. Let go of trying to control their every move and let God do what He does best, lead and guide them along the way. My job is to teach and lead them by example and pray over them every chance I get.
